Jim and Linda

Jim Carey

After graduation I went to Univ Of MD at Munich.  Lots of kids from Wiesbaden were there too.  Here is a partial list of us who attended in Munich.  Pat Arcularius, Karen Bell, Janine Bixby, Kim Brown, Michael Coughlin, Michael Chambers, Danni Dawson, Robert Desloge, Cheryl Dixon, Robert Draper, Kathy Fish, Sharon Logan, Preston Long, Robert Love, Erin Lou McClench, Sherrie Mitchell, David Nolen, Binnie Peterson, Carolyn Raeke, Mike Richardson, Carol Ross, John Roy, Lauren Sahw, Steve Shook, Wendell Shuely, Sherry Simmons, Sue Tobin, Donald Wilson, Jim Cobb and Richard George.

Was there only one semester.  I missed Wiesbaden and wanted to travel and take advantage of being in Europe.  Returned and worked at the commissary with Milt rose for the rest of year and went to night school at HH Arnold.  I returned to the states and played baseball all I could do until Jan 64.  Attended Napa College and graduated with an AA degree in 65.  All I wanted to do was play ball.  Played basketball and baseball at Napa and roomed with Gary Schilling (class of 63).  Loved playing BB and really wasn't very good.  Cal State Univ at Humboldt, in the middle of the California redwoods had the worst basketball team in teh state.  That was for me, I could play there.  Good Reason!!

I married before graduation and had one child quickly.  Allowed me to avoid the draft.  I was accepted into Naval Aviation but at the last moment my wife vetoed that life.  Had to make a living and only knew how to blow up basketballs.  MOved to Southern Calif and became a stockbroker in LA until 1980.  No matter how much I made it wasn't evough and I couldn't hold on to it.  Started my own companies.  Sports and record businesses...Failed.  Moved to Las Vegas and took a company public.  It was a real passion.  I built a softball complex on Las Vegas Blvd.  A really long story about bad guys in Las Vegas.  I became involved with the real life characters in the movie "Casino".  I got out of town.

Moved to Athens, TX, divorced and was a single parent of 3.  Best thing I ever did.  Had to work.  Sold mobile homes..That stunk.  Now living in Longview Texas.  Married the 3rd, she's a keeper and I finally got it right with her.  Linda is a real hoot!  She can and does run circles around me.  She had 7 kids before we married.  Wow!!  My 3 children all have done well.  Erik is an attorney in Austin.  Michelle, a great college athlete, director for Greyhound Lines in Dallas.  Mark, computer business systems for Perot Systems in Dallas.  I have 4 grandchildren and 12 step grandchildren.  There will be more.  Makes me tired to think of it.  I'm a college financial aid expert.

My sister was a 5th grader at Wiesbaden in 62.  She is Pat Cary Sueltz, and President of SunMicrosystems in silicon valley.

My only real successes have been as an athlete.  I have played softball since college and am one of the most famous players ever.  Many All American awards and many national championships.  I still play as a member of the Texas Legends Senior Softball team.  Have to be 55 years old to be on the team.  Hall of Fame induction in 1996.  Old, fat, crippled and all I still want to do is bat.  I play a softball tournament almost every weekend.  I'm involved in a prison ministry and have played softball in 16 prisons this year.  It is really rewarding.  When living in LA I was very active in celebrity events and became friends with lots of celebrities.  I once played on a softball team with 5 Heisman trophy winners.  OJ, and Jim Plunkett were no shows or it would have been 7.  Good friends included many well known celebrities.  "Softball has been good for me!" I've been a national senior home run champion 3 of the past 4 years.  In 1979, Paul Ballot, head sportswriter for "Newsday", nicknamed me the "Wizard of L.A." in a feature article he wrote about me for the Sunday edition.  To bad softball is such a minor sport.  I'd like to play on the same team with Carl Johnson as he is still an avid, accomplished player.  Most fun I've had in the last 5 years is finding Milt Rose again after all these years and visiting him in Houston.  He is President of SeaCorMarine, NYSE.  A really great guy.  Finding Carl Johnson in Calif., a doctor with his own businesses and talking with him at length.  Then finding this website and reading about all my classmates.

Thanks Ron Redd.  I can't wait to give you a big hug in Las Vegas. Warriors Uber Alles!!!!!
