Sally K Minich (Smith) Can we all be old enough to have grandchildren? I guess so because my husband and I have Alison, 22 months old, who's fast becoming our best buddy! My husband Smitty, and I met at UMass, married a year after graduation, and had Molly and Mike a few years later. After a brief OCS and Navy career we settled in MA he with Digital now Compaq in the legal dept and I with two careers, in real estate with my Dad, wrapped on either side with seventeen years of teaching. I'm still at it with sixth graders at an independent school in Concord. Dad passed away last year, and my Mom runs circles around me. Molly (age 30 and Alison's Mom), is married and a high school English teacher in NJ, and Mike (27) runs an e-commerce business called Ortelius.com in Boston. Does anyone but me remember Mr Knoepfl (our Chorus director) yelling at us for being rude and telling us "What's wrong with you is that you're Air Force Brats with no roots!" We forgave him, because we knew he had a soft spot for us, but I always thought he might be right. Now judging from the chord this website struck with me and others, I think maybe we're each other's roots! and I just love this site! |

Robert Porter msmoosie@aol.com Robert Lewis Porter, General H.H. Arnold Class of 1962, studied at the University of Pittsburgh until he was drafted in his senior year of college. He served as a U.S. Army Captain in Vietnam and at Fort Hood, Texas. He returned to finish his B.S. in Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Shortly thereafter, Bob received his Masters Degree in Engineering at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, where he also taught undergraduate classes. As an Engineer, Bob worked for Computer Sciences Corporation, the Rockwell Corporation, and The Aerospace Corporation, prior to opening his own business in Pasadena, California. Ten years later Bob suffered health problems which eventually led to his returning home to Virginia in April 2001. A very private man, Bob enjoyed the last years of his life as a "gentleman farmer" with his dogs Charles and Aimee, in Kent's Store Virginia. He spent two full months in the University of Virginia Hospital before succumbing to heart failure on Saturday, May 17, 2008. Bob leaves behind him his sister, Leslie (Porter) Rittenberg, Class of 1965, her two children, Christopher and Allison, and their spouses, as well as five grand-nephews and -nieces. We will miss him greatly. The Preddy Funeral Home in Orange, Virginia is cremating him and his interment will be on Wednesday, August 6 at Arlington National Cemetery. miltr@.ckor.com After graduation, couldn't bear to leave so bummed around Europe for a year, incl a long trip to Italy with Jim Cary and Mike Richardson. Graduated US Coast Guard Academy '67 - B.S. Marine Engineering, then 4 yrs at sea, then grad school (MBA - UofDen, '72) Started working in Houston in '73 for a marine trans company in the offshore oil industry, Zapata Marine Svc where I held various ops and tech jobs. Had 3 foreign assignments - Belem, Brazil, and twice to London. '85-'89 ran harbor tug business for a Houston family who owned the company, Bay-Houston Towing, since late 1800s. In '93 joined Seacor Marine as President. Seacor Marine is the largest operating division of Seacor Smit, Inc a NYSE listed co with 350 vessels worldwide in many countries. Been lucky so far to spend entire career doing what I love - being around ships and the marine industry. My greatest fortune, however, occurred in '67, my senior year at CGA, when I met Jill who was attending Connecticut College. We married in '69 when Jill graduated and 32 yrs later, we've had a great life together. Jill's a kindergarten teacher and much more..a true life partner. We have two terrific daughters, Jenny, 27, Davidson College undergrad, and M.A. UT-Austin, and Sarah, 23, Georgetown undergrad-working in Wash DC. Jill and I are still in Houston. |

Linda Gates Williams (Merrell) lgmerrell@msn.com I dropped out of college very early, married and had two kids before I was 21. I have an ex-husband who was a record producer and music studio owner and an ex-husband who was a real estate investor. Both are still my very best friends, and I am grateful to have so few regrets. Nevertheless after my last marriage failed, I decided to fulfill a few of my own ambitions. so armed with just 13 undergraduate hours and a stubborn streak a mile wide, I completed both my undergraduate degree in gov and economics and a law degree in 4 yrs from Univ of Texas. My 3 kids, 1 son, 1 daughter and 1 stepdaughter raised from a toddler are grown and have given me 4 little grandchildren, all girls. After graduation I went to work in an environmental consulting firm, but it wasn't the law for me. I am now an administrative law judge and work a lot of juvenile justice issues on the side here in Albuquerque, NM ! |
