Binnie and Husband |
Binnie Peterson Bruso After graduation I attended U. of Maryland, Munich for a year of poor grades and great partying. My dad retired and we moved to Aurora, Colorado. I went to work for minimum wage then $2.25 per hr. It was a real eye opener. Re-met an old high school sweetheart, Mascoutah, Illinois, and we married in '64. He went to navigator school in Waco, Texas and I worked minimum wage again. From Texas we went to Delaware and cargo transports and the Viet Nam war build up under Johnson's administration. Had my first Air Force child at Dover AFB, daughter, Lara in '66. We did RB 57 F's out of Albuquerque, New Mexico and then we headed for Del Rio, Texas, pilot training and I had my second Air Force child, son, Brandon '70. Two tours of Viet Nam in F4's left me living in Ft. Worth Texas and waiting. Like most wives of that era, we were supportive and invisible. After Nam, we were transferred to Anchorage, Alaska. I loved it from day one. It is a fantastic place. I finally got to go back to school and majored in Art Education/Secondary Ed and minor in Speech. I graduated with a cum laude diploma in one hand and a divorce decree in the other. We back packed, skied down hill/cross country, fished, ice skated, and dog mushed! Yes, I am an official dog musher and had a 3 dog team. I stayed in Alaska and taught at the University of Alaska while I worked on my Master's in Adult Reading Problems. I had my life all planned out when Mr. Bruso and his 4 sons changed it. We married in '76 and had an instant family of six kids, three dogs, and double every household item you can imagine. I am still cleaning out stuff from the blending of the families. Wow, 5 boys and 1 girl, we had a food bill that looked like the national debt. Jim, Mr. Bruso, promised not to move me out of Alaska so, of course, four years later we moved. We came to the Seattle area and lived in a little town of Issaquah. The kids thought they had died. The town only had one high school of 1200 and we were called the farmers. There were lots of tears and wanting to return to good old Alaska - that was me. The kids were unhappy too. To top off matters I was pregnant. Well our son arrived in spring of '81. Jim and I were quite please with what two old folks could still do. The brood was not as pleased but we all settled in okay. That baby is now 27. The time sure flew. Jim is retired Navy, and a naval academy graduate class of '56. I still teach but have changed fields from secondary to elementary education and special education. I hope to continue five more years. I started on my principalship and doctorate but ran out of steam. Actually, I suffered blood clots in my lungs. After 6 days in ICU, I developed a whole new perspective my life. Oh, the kids - they are all grown, gainfully employed, some married, and, like you would expect of a military family, spread all over the US. Three of the boys live in the area, we have 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children. |

Barbara Anderson Boyd I left Germany in August 1962 to attend Idaho State University. Two years there was enough for me to know I was no better a college student than I was in high school, so ended up with my folks in San Bernardino and went to a secretarial school started by a Colonel who taught compressed, accelerated classes (like the stuff he taught as an Army instructor). It was fun and fascinating to be able to work at my speed and "graduate" with super grades. Followed Mother and Dad to Ohio and England after that. While working at South Ruislip Air Station I met my first husband (Air Force auditor). We had two children (boy and girl) and divorced after 25 years of marriage. I went back to work for IRS as a secretary (1992), having worked for them upon returning from England, transferred to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1993 and made it through classes to become a Certified Management Analyst. One of my favorite jobs was as one of two Assistant Records Officers for CDC. During this time I met and married (2002) my second husband, David Boyd, a building contractor. I retired in 2006. Between us we have six grandchildren (one set of triplets) and have built a cabin somewhere between Lake Hartwell and Lake Russell in NE Georgia. My mom moved here in 2004 about 18 months after Dad died. Our kids live close so we enjoy them and the grandchildren as often as possible. |
